Apple is working on a foldable iPhone that could hit shelves as early as 2026, according to an exclusive report published today by The information.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
According to the report, the device would feature a clamshell design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip smartphone lineup. Apple has reportedly been reaching out to suppliers in Asia in recent months to manufacture components for the device.
Rumors of a foldable iPhone have been circulating for many years, but the report claims that Apple is finally moving forward with the project. The device has reportedly been codenamed “V68” within Apple, suggesting that work is picking up speed.
Apple reportedly struggled to achieve its goal of eliminating a visible crease in the area where the iPhone’s display would fold, but that hurdle could eventually be overcome. However, it’s of course possible that Apple will decide not to release a foldable iPhone, if the device doesn’t meet the company’s high quality standards.
Either way, it looks like a foldable iPhone might be a few years away.
