Sony has released a new firmware update for PlayStation 5 and announced new features coming to the console in a future version.
First up, PS5 system software update 24.05-09.60.00 is available for download now. It adds PS5 Session Sharing to the console. Check out the patch notes below:

The 25 best PS5 games

Q1 2024 is behind us, and that means it’s time for us to update IGN’s list of the top 25 PlayStation 5 games! But what do we mean by “best”? To be very clear, this is not an attempt to establish an “objective” ranking that would unquestionably fit the tastes of gamers of all types. That, unfortunately, can never exist; when one person’s epic RPG masterpiece is another’s boring, impenetrable slog, they’ll never agree on where that game should rank compared to others of different genres. Even the personal lists of two people who like the same types of games rarely match exactly.

Instead, this is a list of games that IGN’s PlayStation Gamer Team recommends as a group, ranked using our Face-Off tool so that everyone can weigh in equally on which games they think should be placed above the rest. It’s presented in the spirit of recognizing the games we love and encouraging others to give them a try if you haven’t.

<script type= google_ad_client = "ca-pub-5468334666710374"; /* AADDSS */ google_ad_slot = "AADDSS"; google_ad_width = 750; google_ad_height = 200;
With only 25 spots to fill, there are tons of incredible recent games that didn’t float to the top – but that doesn’t mean we don’t think they’re awesome too! Everyone who participated in the vote has tons of personal favorites that didn’t gain enough traction with the group to make the cut, which is inevitable when there are this many games and this many different perspectives.
Keep in mind that while the PS5 is a powerhouse that can play any PlayStation 4-compatible game, for the sake of clarity and sanity, our criteria for this list have narrowed the pool to focus on games that have PlayStation 5-specific versions. While we still love games like Doom, God of War, Minecraft, Red Dead Redemption 2, and many more, until they’re updated, they’re relegated to the PS4 list — and of course, many will have a spot on our list of the 100 best games of all time.
Most importantly, please remember that this list is just our group’s perspective and is no more “good” or “bad” than a list you create yourself. On that note: If you have your own rankings that you’d like to share, we’d like to invite you to create your own list of the top 25 (or 100!) PlayStation games using our Playlist tool and share it in the comments.

Meanwhile, Sony has announced that a new PS5 beta will launch tomorrow, July 25, which will add custom 3D audio profiles and new Remote Play settings. Beta participants using the latest, slimmer PS5 model will also be able to test out adaptive controller charging.
In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Hiromi Wakai, vice president of product management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said that Sony plans to release this update worldwide in the coming months.
Here are the highlights of the PS5 beta update, according to the PlayStation Blog:
Custom 3D audio profiles for headsets and headphones (available for all PS5 models)
In this generation, 3D audio is one of the main ways that creators have improved the immersive quality of games. As individuals, we all hear sounds differently depending on the size and shape of our heads, ears, and ear canals.
We’re excited to introduce a feature that lets your PS5 console create a custom 3D audio profile just for you. With a headset or earbuds like the Pulse Elite Wireless Headset or Pulse Explore Wireless Earbuds, you can run a series of sound quality tests to analyze a variety of factors to create an audio profile that best matches your hearing characteristics. For example, your custom 3D audio profile can help you hear the positions of characters and objects in a game world more clearly than before, making the experience more immersive.
To create a custom 3D audio profile for your headset or headphones, go to [Settings] > [Sound] > [3D Audio (Headphones)] on your PS5 console and follow the on-screen steps. Your audio profile will be saved to your PS5 per user, and you’ll also still be able to select from 3D audio presets as before.
This feature builds on the 3D audio enhancements we’ve been introducing to PS5 since launch, including 3D audio support for built-in TV speakers and support for Dolby Atmos-enabled audio devices. These features give you additional options to immerse yourself more deeply in the rich variety of soundscapes in PS5 games, powered by Tempest 3D AudioTech.
Enable Remote Play for individual users (available for all PS5 models)
You can now adjust Remote Play settings on a per-user basis and choose who can connect to your PS5 console using Remote Play. So if your friends or family members come and sign in to your PS5 console with their PlayStation Network account, you can easily change who can continue to access your PS5 console using Remote Play when they leave.
To adjust these settings, go to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play]and choose the user you want to allow access to your PS5 console via Remote Play.

Adaptive charging for your controller (available for the latest PS5 model)
Adaptive charging for the DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers, and Access Controller is now available to PS5 Beta participants using the latest PS5 model, when the console is in sleep mode. Adaptive charging helps save energy by adjusting the amount of time power is supplied to your controller based on its battery level.
To use adaptive charging, go to [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode]then select [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]Once your PS5 enters sleep mode, if no controller is connected, the power to the USB port will stop after a while.
