Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Cinematic Suggests We’re Saving the Justice League – IGN

A new Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League cinematic has sparked debate over where the story is going, as the final season teases the next playable character.

Ms. Freeze was added to Rocksteady’s controversial live-action shooter last week as part of the Season 2 launch, and with her came a cinematic that has set the game’s small but loyal community abuzz.

Warning! Spoilers for season 2 of Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League:

The new cinematic shows The Flash returning after the Suicide Squad rescued him from captivity by killing another post-launch Brainiac as part of Season 2. The Suicide Squad had killed The Flash alongside other corrupt members of the Justice League in an effort to save Metropolis from destruction at the hands of Brainiac in the base game’s main story.

Some have called the story development a surprise, while others have said that a post-launch twist that would see the return of “good” Justice League members is still in the works. Regardless, players are wondering about the exact nature of Flash’s return, what it means for Brainiac’s master plan, and raising the possibility that other characters seemingly killed by the Suicide Squad, including Batman, Green Lantern, and Superman, could also make their return.

One of the most controversial episodes of the base Suicide Squad game is the death of the corrupt Batman from the Arkham trilogy, executed mercilessly by Harley Quinn. Some criticized this death, saying it didn’t give the character, voiced by the late Kevin Conroy, the break he deserved.

But could Batman now be returning to Kevin Conroy’s side? This new cutscene suggests that the Suicide Squad killed clones of the original Justice League members during the main story, with Brainiac holding the real ones hostage. However, some suggest that the Suicide Squad did indeed kill the original Justice League members, but Brainiac has since resurrected them, and it’s now up to Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, and King Shark to save them.

Regardless, in the cutscene, Flash spots the Suicide Squad and wonders why they aren’t in jail, before collapsing. The character’s return is not mentioned further.

Perhaps more reveals and real members of the Justice League will appear in Season 3, which seems set to add Lawless as a playable character. While the list of post-launch DLC characters has already leaked via a data mine, Rocksteady has teased their inclusion with changes to Metropolis that clearly indicate who’s next. Season 1, for example, teased the arrival of Ms. Freeze with an icy change to Metropolis, and now players have spotted another change that suggests Lawless is coming soon. After Lawless, Deathstroke should round out the roster of playable characters from Year 1.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was of course panned by critics upon its launch. and has an extremely low player count on Steam. Part of the frustration comes from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League not being another Batman game from Rocksteady, albeit one set in the Arkhamverse. The developer’s single-player Arkham series is well-loved by fans, with Batman: Arkham City in particular considered one of the greatest, if not THE the best superhero video games of all time.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, on the other hand, is a live-action third-person shooter in which Batman is a villain. Shortly after the game’s release in February 2024, publisher Warner Bros. admitted Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s failure contributed to $200 million revenue loss.

Last month, Warner Bros. told IGN that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to End First Year of Supportbut declined to comment on what would happen next. The question is, will Rocksteady’s apparent post-launch plan to have the Suicide Squad pivot to saving the Justice League after killing them be fully realized?
