It can be very difficult to distinguish what is satire from what is not in this age of irony. Remember how Sony executives didn’t realize that the social media hype behind the critical and commercial misfire Morbius wasn’t real? They put a bad movie back in theaters, only to have it flop even more. Similarly, it’s very hard to tell whether Cybertruck owners are all making some kind of super-meta, intellectual satire, or whether they’re biting off more than they can chew and trying to save face. A man standing up and then breaking the windshield of his Cybertruck at a Tesla meeting sounds like satire, but it’s not.

Originally posted to TikTok by user Tesla Owner Silicon Valley and then reposted by a few unrelated users X (nee Twitter), the  video shows a man walking around the front of a Cybertruck dressed in gray digital camouflage. The video begins with the man claiming that when you’re at a meeting with other Teslas and driving the “best  truck ever,” you’re then obligated to climb up on the roof of the truck and walk on it because “it’s built to last.” The comedic timing is matched only by the golden age of Saturday Night LiveThe windshield makes a not-so-subtle crack just as the man announces his 240-pound weight.

At first, despite the video’s title “Tesla Windshield Cracks,” it wasn’t entirely clear whether the windshield actually cracks in the video. The author quickly climbs out of the back of the truck, then turns around to congratulate the truck again.

The next video on the owner’s page shows a broken Tesla windshield. The creator says he’s making “lemons out of lemonade,” as he proceeds to smash the Cybertruck’s windshield with a cinder block. If you look closely, there’s a large spider web broken on the driver’s side of the windshield right where he stepped in the previous video, in addition to the many cracks and chips created by throwing a cinder block at the truck’s windshield.

The comments on TikTok are pretty predictable. They all have fun laughing at the owner’s insanity. Some are unsure whether the page is satirical or not, while others say the video is the height of the sunk cost fallacy.

I don’t want anyone to feel bad or stupid about what they want to do with their truck. Hell, it’s his truck, he paid for it. If he wants to blow it up with a Claymore mine a day or two after he buys it, then whatever it is, that’s his business.

I just wonder: what the hell are we doing here? The Cybertruck has quickly become a meme truck, with its polarizing styling and the actions of clueless, embarrassed owners overriding the seriousness of its cool tech advancements. How many content creators have found themselves with egg on their face when they’ve tried to emulate Elon Musk’s not-so-scientific durability tests? We’ve seen trucks get shot and ruined while people have mangled their fingers on the Cybertruck’s sharp-edged doors.

When this kind of thing happens, some claim it’s “satire” or that they were just doing it for clicks. At least in the video, the author tacitly admits that stepping on the cybertruck might not have been such a good idea. Either way, it’s not going to be a pretty fix.

We reached out to the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account, but they have yet to respond. Please, can we just drive the truck like a normal person? I think we’ve all seen enough Cybertruck carnage.
