Viewer Unhappy With AMC Theaters’ Blatant Tax Fraud

A moviegoer has taken on AMC Theaters after discovering hidden fees on their concession ticket.

TikToker Kikntiger expressed his frustration in a video titled, “Pretty weak move from AMC Theaters.” The clip has been viewed 1.2 million times since Thursday.

In it, he explained how, after ordering popcorn and two large drinks for nearly $24, he was charged an additional $2 delivery fee on top of the usual $1 service charge.

“The shipping costs inside a movie theater are insane,” he wrote alongside the clip.

“Companies are losing control of their costs,” Kikntiger begins his 45-second speech.

“It’s for concessions at a movie theater. You know, it’s not Door Dash!” he said in disbelief, referring to the popular food delivery app.

After ordering a popcorn and two large drinks costing nearly $24, he was then charged an additional $2 delivery fee on top of the usual $1 service fee.

“It’s at my local movie theater, where the only option to get snacks is for them to bring them to you, right to your seat,” Kikntiger continued.

“You can’t just go to the snack counter and order whatever you want and walk to the movie theater with it. So, okay, whatever — but then they charge you $2 just to deliver it 25 feet from the kitchen?

“Like you wouldn’t drive to my house. And then you charge me a dollar service fee? For what? For the privilege of ordering food?”

Kikntiger said he felt compelled to speak out in this particular instance because the $2 fee is unavoidable if he buys food at the AMC store he frequents.

“I understand that dealerships are expensive, I’m not interested in that. But to charge me $2 in fees that I can’t avoid? That’s ridiculous,” he says at the end of his video.

This post has garnered a lot of sympathy from other online followers.

“Just bring your own food. They never check. You can literally bring a bag full of food and drinks,” one commenter advised.

“I worked at an AMC restaurant and even I can’t find a reason for these fees,” added another.

“Are they going to start charging a refill fee for soda and a packaging fee for popcorn?” wondered a third.

Others have been less conciliatory about Kikntiger’s grievances.

“If you have to pay $7.50 for a Coke Zero, you can pay $2,” one surmised.

“Dude you want them to work for free they gotta bring it to you while you sit back and relax. Stop acting like a Karen. Ken,” added a second.

AMC restaurants charge a $2 delivery fee and a $1 service fee, which is unavoidable

It seems like adding fees is nothing new, with a Reddit thread discussing the topic in 2021.

“After ordering tickets online for a DINE IN movie theater, I am asked if I would like to order food in advance. I thought this seemed like a cool new feature, after adding my food order I was presented with the price and a $2.00 delivery fee was added. I simply cancelled the order thinking I would like to see them present this in person,” the Redditer wrote.

The poster suggested that the charges should be included in the overall cost of the items ordered and not listed as an additional charge at the end of the check.

“It just seems stupid. This is a restaurant where the only purpose is to order food and have it brought to your seat,” they added.

A check of AMC restaurants confirms that an additional $3 fee is added to any food order. According to the TikTok video, the fee includes a $2 delivery fee and a $1 service fee.

AMC locations without the Dine-In option charge a flat $1 fee for the service.
